Easy DIY Skirts for Emma and Sara!

For dress down day this week, I wanted to treat my two favorite girls to a special DIY.

I made these easy and adorable elastic waist skirts using a fabric reminiscent of their favorite ride at Disney World, "It's A Small World".

If you can sew a straight line, you can totally make this skirt.

After measuring out the fabric, I pinned the fabric wrong sides touching and sewed up the seams on either side.

I never realized how important it is to iron out your seams after sewing, but now I swear by it! It really helps to make everything look polished and professional.

After sewing the waist band tab, I used a safety pin to insert my "no roll" elastic for the waistband and used a zig-zag stitch to seam the elastic. Don't forget to "stitch in the ditch" (either side of skirt) to secure elastic will not move around or bunch in the skirt.

Then came the hem! I ended up ironing 1/4 inch of fabric, then one inch of fabric ironed flat, to create a clean edge before hemming.

And TA DA! One hour later, the perfect skirt was created! I love the yellow contrast thread I used as it makes the print really pop. Swoon.... Friday Dress Down pictures coming soon...
