Screen Printing Class: Custom Tea Towels

Tonight I attended an awesome beginner's screen printing class at Kanibal Home. Nicole from Nightingale Projects taught the class how to screen print tea towels and made it as simple as 1,2,3!

Once you have decided where the print will go, you simply line up the tea towel in the press, and squeegee once or twice with the ink until the print has the desired effect. There really is no right or wrong, as imperfections in shading are what makes the project unique.

To take it up a notch, you can use fabric pens to color in the screen print- I love the way this can tie in colors of the stamping. Here, I used a peach marker to tie in the light peach arrows in the towel.

Once dry, heat set your towel for 5 minutes in the dryer so the dye is permanent and will not run in the washing machine. I love the results!

I may need to put a screen print press on my wish list this year...
