Summer Sewing: The Tank Dress

Sewing your own clothes can be a daunting and terrifying task unless you have the right pattern, tools, patience, and time.

Using Sew Caroline's (my idol!) pattern, this "Tank Dress" was an easy first sew. The fabric? None other than April Rhodes Arizona series. This fabric is called "Clay Dots". I bought yards in each of the Arizona prints because I couldn't decide which I loved more.

Once I printed the PDF pattern, I pieced it together with washi tape to make it look special.

It already looked like a dress when I cut the fabric. SO not intimidating.
PS- Pockets! I love a dress with pockets!

The secret to this dress is the cinched back using cased elastic. I love the clean look of it, and that there are no zippers or closures to worry about.

Had to include my handmade tag to personalize the dress.

 The simple front...
And the awesome gathered back....

Finished! What do you think? Are you sewing your wardrobe this summer?
